Twisted Ring of Pain
The original mission was to establish contact with the Bobcat Crit, located in deep space near Alewife Station. A phone call to Luna Ace Wheelworks in the Somerville System revealed the crit was not yet in season. However there was a get together at Space Station Bob's. A quick look on the starmap showed an easy journey, just a light year past Luna Wheelworks in the Belmont System. The party was at 20:00 Earth Time, but Crack and Skunk didn't launch until 21:00.
The gravity wells in that region of space proved beyond the expectations of even the most hardened pilots. Crack's knees were hurting, and due to a long flight log for the week Skunk had a severe case of bananarama. The convoy wound up missing Planet Forest, and overshooting another light year and a half of even more brutal G-wells. After checking the stars and asking the local life forms we realized our mistake.
We headed back. The positive G-well was exhilarating, only to be followed by a brutal Negi GWell. There was grim talk of spacewalk, but would do everything in our power to avoid it. Just as it seemed as if the craft was going to succeed, the timing chain broke and the tension ring pretzeled. This ring is now a Sacred Object, and is now known as The Twisted Ring of Pain. Look to it for inspiration.
We spacewalked the rest of the hill. We realized we still had half engines and retros, so we continued onward.
We found Planet Forest around 00:30. We decided to make first contact despite our failure to meet the deadline. The natives were friendly, to say the least. Some of them were in the Chin on the Rim battle from Luna Seven. They brought the damages USB ChromePony into spacedock, and made repairs and even improvements on our craft, eliminating the need for a tension ring. After exchanging a few tales of battle, we bid farewell and traveled home without further incident.
