Mission Summary
Reviews are in: last night's performance by Supergroup SCUL proves they are no one hit wonder! Led by sometimes frontwoman Diva, the band revisited old hits -- the Esplanade, Public Garden, and the Christian Science Center. The first half of the show, conducted by veteran Walt0r, was decidedly uptempo, and members narrowly avoided being DEVOURED by adoring (and some vicious) fans!
During a brief intermission, the stars reminisced about old auditions -- those who joined for one night performances, and didn't stick around to get paid!
The Diva Bounce was in FULL EFFECT as Fuzz led the band in a decidedly more mellow pace for the second half of the show. PQ and Cosima demonstrated their ability to play a single instrument in tandem while still carrying the melody. Skunk showcased a never-before-experienced percussive phenomenon henceforth known as FenderCan, though the song couldn't recover from its rhythm. Zeus made a point of punctuating great riffs with his spectacular horn, and the audience delighted in a guest appearance by Wombat, who simply appeared on stage halfway through the first act.
The last number fell a little flat, but Diva tried to really run the performance home as the songs drew to a close, demonstrating true strength. She was buoyed along by Vomit and PQ's spectacular shimmer and shine (okay, okay, and Skunk's velour jacket that was eclipsed by his quilted poncho gone wild?), and SCUL took a bow to thunderous applause. 4/5 stars, the performance was phenomenal, but BOY, the fans these days!
