Do The Worm
Worms worms worms
There was so much food for the mission! Between Possum's trial and other pilots bringing food to share, no pilot went hungry. There was much talk about wanting Doughboy to fly again and bring us more tasty bagel molecules.
With a slight change of expected path, 16 pilots were ready to make contact with a worm. Leotard came prepared with an artificial worm just in case we could not make contact. Sidekick took it upon herself to give our new worm friend a make over just before the mission launched, then promptly forgot it at the fort. Once the worm tried out a few different ships, it ultimately decided to fly alongside Taco on Ez Raider.
Dr. Claw was really feeling the worm tonight and allowed the rest of the pilots to experience it through his navigating skills. He expertly navigated through tight spots that seemed would only end in disaster, but always wiggled his and the fleet's way out into open space. I think Dr. Claw thought that worms eat space trash as he had his ship suck up a can into his primary thruster. We can only deduce that worms do not like cans as that idea did not pan out and the can got stuck in the thruster and not digested. We had to call a CANical to remove the can from the thruster. Dr. Claw was nice enough to allow other pilots to crunch it with their ships afterwards.
We had our first shore leave in Central Constellation so we could work on our life support. We think the Worms were reaching out to us but they were on the wrong frequency. We made contact with some passing civilians, but they had not made contact with any worms. Some pilots got some fuel and sour gummy worms. Sidekick had to burn up, we blame the worm contact interference.
As we pressed on into space looking for sign of worms, we passed by a location where civilians call the frequenters "Book Worms" but we saw no worms there. Some sandworms passed us in flight but we have not been able to figure out how to make in-flight contact with those. Dr. Claw thought they might be by the Bandsaw. Shore leave was taken here. The Bandsaw blade may look like a flying worm, but it is not. We think a Pilot could be cut in half if they made contact with that false worm so we thought it best not to try. Bagels were consumed and Everest made her first HARV flight on Spitfire, with the guidance of Possum.
After shore leave we cruised the Harborwalk as maybe some worms were thirsty. I think we were getting really close as Dr. Claw went full worm, twisting and turning with a line of pilots in tow. And then it was just gone, it must have been a false worm signal and we ended up in a dead end. Lordmcfuzz was not prepared and ejected from Moneypenny despite Everest's attempt to retain him. No injuries were sustained. Just in case the worm signal was not false, we searched the area but we did not find any worms.
We had only one mechanical, and it was Bane Thunderwolf annihilating Annihilation's hose clamps. It only set us back a little while, but Dr. Claw was able to find the worm signal again as wookiees sprang into action.
Dr. Claw navigated us to the Greenway constellation, where Beetlejuice was able to make first contact, even before our fleet's DirtBag that was carrying our entrenching tool. Everest tapped into the worm signal and was able to make conversation with the worm we found. Everest found out that greetings and good-byes are done by licking worms (not eating them). She licked it good bye, Excess did the worm in celebration and we were on our way.
We made one last stop at the Public Garden constellation to attempt to prevent the lingering worm signal from affecting our life support. It was decided it was a good time to knight Possum. Deadblow brought her freshly polished ceremonial deadblow for just the occasion. Pilots attempted the reverse haze ritual but got confused and tried to haze Possum like a maggot instead. We could not come up with anything bad about her and called the failed ritual a success anyway and Possum was knighted! Hip Hip Hooray!
Pilots returned to the fort and more bagel molecules were consumed.
