Sea pens float in deep seawater, although we are admittedly tethered to the bottom of the sea floor. Our worst enemies are nudibranchs, sea hares, sea slugs, and worst of all, sea goddesses. There is nothing sea pens can do about these spineless, mortally coiled creatures, because we are inanimate (as those pesky grammarians describe us). That is part of our charm. We animate ourselves, hug the incoming current, and look forward, to future filtees.
