EARTH - The SCUL Team is safe at home after a race against the clock for survival.
The early mission was the result of an unknown party reading from the necronomicon, a book of forbidden knowledge. According to SCUL's briefing, this caused "Dark and nefarious forces" to be unleased throughout the galaxy. Castle Island was the only known safe refuge.
SCUL deployed 18 ships at precisely 4:00 ante meridiem, including myself, an embedded journalist. The group consisted of both veterans and youngsters alike, all racing to arrive on the island by 6:11.
Despite some unfavorable flight conditions earlier in the morning, the weather cleared up just in time for launch, and SCUL experienced minimal turbulence while exiting the Allston sector.
Towering more than 7' above the surface, Lordmcfuzz led the crew through the BU wormhole, across the Mass Ave trench, past the Dorchester corridor and into the Southie cluster.
On approach to their destination, the team took a quick detour through a black hole, causing one unaffiliated transport to turn around and drive back to safety.
There was some confusion amongst the crew about the planned route, but they stayed in formation, followed Lordmcfuzz's lead, and ultimately landed safely on Head Island, a satellite of Castle Island. It was there that they built a small temporary settlement.
The weather was far less favorable on the island, but SCUL demonstrated toughness and resiliency to endure the colder atmosphere. Refueling was made possible by several team members who brought sharable snacks, including coffee from Punchy and egg sandwiches from Dead Bride. A recharging station was provided in the form of a hammock, although at least one pilot chose to enter sleep-mode on a bench.
Dawn arrived right on schedule, despite some minor nebula activity, signaling a successful mission. After some photodocumentation and a traditional crowdsurfing ceremony, pilots reboarded their ships and made their way home.
The ride back was a victory lap of sorts. SCUL was greeted with high fives and cheers from citizens across every neighborhood system, this time including Castle Island itself, the Seaport District, The Financial District, Downtown Crossing, City Hall Plaza, and Back Bay.
Morale was high upon returning to base. Fleet Admiral Skunk expressed pride in his team, and one broadcast specialist looks forward to continuing his training in the near future.
